whooooo are you, too!

My first experience with an owl here in the country was during the first few years we were here.

I was very conscious of having no clue how much water was in the well. I did what i could to conserve.  I had a routine of dish washing (yes of course by hand) where as little water as possible went down the drain.  Most was caught in the dish pan to be disposed of, by watering the flowers or bushes out side the back door. The used water, of course, contained bits of food too.

One late night, as i was about to do last of the night dog walking,  I turned the back porch light on. Much to my surprised,  I caught sight of a small screech owl sitting on the rail, about to pounce on the mice that came to eat the bits of food from the dish washing water.  His head swiveled around toward  me like something out of the exorcist.  I was astonished, he/she was astonished.  The Owl blinked at me and i blinked back. Then he flew off to disappear back into the night.

The mice survived that night.....and so did I
