Doesn't take living in the city or the country to get the Merriam Webster " word of the day". One way or another, i have read the "word of the day" for years and years. How many words have made it into my vocabulary is anyone's guess, but probably few.
We live on a state highway with more noise than visiting city friends think we should have. So much quieter than the city and 12 lanes of traffic day and night. The quiet times here, and there are quiet times, sometimes bother me. The sound of silence.
Spending the day with a friend who has acreage of her own and all around her, i was surprised at the sound. Quiet like i had never hear... but also the wind whispering through the tall grass. The sound was relentless. This sound and no sound left me with a very eerie feeling. I am too used to a little nose to live in the extreme quiet.
"The Big open fields that surrounded the house were susurrous, which left me feeling very unsettled".
I need a little noise in my life.
